Crucial Questions: Is God Lax?
Eventually, we all let things slide. Over time, we grow accustomed to the way things are. We develop bad habits that go unchecked. We live in ways that aren’t just relaxed, but lax. We may even see it as it’s happening, but settling for the way things are is easier than struggling to shape things into the way things ought to be. We may develop the idea that time is the problem—too much time will always result in indifference and negligence. This may be true for us. But God’s ways are not our ways. Our God is never inattentive, indifferent, or negligent. Though he may not act on our timelines, God is always patient. Though he may not react as we do, God is always gracious. Today, we see a glimpse of the big picture. God has always provided more than we need or deserve, yet mankind has not reciprocated. Even as God sends words of warning, the sinful nature is emboldened to go their own way. Ultimately, God will not allow this. Everything we have is a trust from God and we strive, as Paul puts it, to set our minds on heavenly things and glorify God.
