He Saves: And Fulfills the Prophets
Today we celebrate the Transfiguration of our Lord. That day, the big three of Jesus’ disciples, Peter, James, and John, were privileged to witness Jesus in his exalted glory. While Jesus shone like the sun; Moses and Elijah (the two most revered Old Testament leaders) suddenly appeared with Jesus. They attested to Jesus authority and his role as the Messiah, the promised Savior of the world. The disciples wanted to build a type of shrine to show their respect for and belief in Jesus.
In today's sermon focus, an early leader of the new Christian church named Stephen had his own personal interaction with Jesus. After preaching a lengthy sermon on how Jesus was the fulfillment of the entire Old Testament, Jesus' unbelieving enemies took out their hate for Jesus by attacking Stephen. Even as they hurled their lethal stone missiles at Stephen, he continued to proclaim, "I see Jesus.” That will always be the cry of every believer.
