The Cost: of Sight

Jesus did many, many miracles to prove that he was God’s promised Messiah. Not all of his miracles were recorded, but the ones that are in John’s Gospel build upon one another. When Jesus healed the man born blind, he wasn’t just helping one man who had a difficult life. Jesus was demonstrating divine power (John 9:16, 33) and fulfilling the Old Testament prophecies (see Isaiah 29:18, 35:5, 42:7). More than that though, Jesus was indicating how he would deal with a world full of spiritually blind sinners. He has come to shine his light into our sin-darkened hearts and give us spiritual sight so that we may see him as our Savior and Lord. Today, as we gather around his Word and Sacraments, our eyes are opened and we give glory to God. The Light of the World has come to save us and strengthen us to walk in his light.
