He Saves: Through Baptism

Today’s focus is on God’s great love for the great gatherings of sinful people. God makes a habit of calling the unfit and the unworthy through his powerful Word and also Christ’s Baptism. It is remarkable that God makes his enemies into his children, sinners into saints, and the lost into the found. But that’s not all that catches our attention. The sinless Son of God comes to the same waters! Why was Jesus baptized? John the Baptist was confounded too! Christ, the Truth, gives us a clear answer. It is necessary to fulfill all righteousness. Jesus wasn’t baptized to take away his own sins, but he was baptized so that we might be redeemed. He took on flesh to become like us, and in our baptisms we are washed clean, made holy like him. Today, as we remember his Baptism, we also remember ours and take great comfort in this truth. In Baptism, we were buried with Christ also that we might be raised with him!
