Navigating Life Well: Freedom

Each year, we celebrate the Reformation, a watershed moment in the Church’s history. It began in 1517, with Martin Luther nailing 95 theses to the door of his church in Wittenberg, Germany. His desire was not to spark a rebellion, but a renewal—a return to the Gospel of our salvation. Martin Luther wanted people to live a life of repentance—not simply purchase indulgences. So he implored the people and the spiritual leaders of his day to examine the Scriptures and see that God’s Word is clear and consistent. Everyone needs salvation from sins. No one is saved by what they do. Sinners can only be saved by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Any other path to justification is a foolish, dead end. By God’s grace, this small act sparked a spiritual renewal that surpassed any of Luther’s intentions and restored the precious truths of the Gospel to generations of sinners in need.
