Navigating Life Well: Fresh Starts

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket! We’ve all been taught that the best way to reduce risk is to not be too reliant on any one thing and have a lot of options. But today, we meet a man with all the world’s eggs in one ark—Noah. As the waters of God’s judgment against the wickedness of this world recede and dry land appears, Noah makes critical decisions. First, he waits to disembark until God commands it. Second, he offers up a burnt offering to the Lord, without any explicit command. From a purely biological point of view, this seems crazy! But Noah knows something more. His sacrifice is not one of appeasement but of gratitude and faith. He trusts that the Lord will keep his promises to him and all creation. The God who rescued his family will provide for all his creatures. So he willingly and joyfully put all his eggs in the basket of the One, True God, whose mercy triumphs over judgment.
