Navigating Life Well: Gratitude
Gratitude is having its moment. Culturally speaking, gratitude has never been more popular. People from wildly different worldviews sing the praises of beginning each day with gratitude. Especially during this season, our minds are keen to find ways to experience and express gratitude.
This is a good thing as the cleansed Samaritan shows us. We have been made holy from a far more deadly condition—our sin. We have every reason to thank and praise God every single day. But gratitude is not meant to be just for the big things or even just momentary. We have every reason to begin each day with a fresh gratitude—no matter our circumstances. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians that Christians are to give thanks in all circumstances. Why do we give thanks in all circumstances? Because the Lord remains faithful to all his promises. His mercy for us in fresh each day. His promises never expire or have fine print. His goodness and faithfulness are unending. We have eternal hope and a reason each day to be thankful.
