All In: When Comforts Fail
Unique financial advice typically draws interest. But Jesus’ counsel is unlike any other. He warns us that material possessions quickly ascend from instrument to master. Sadly, we often recognize greed in others and overlook it in our own hearts and lives. Perhaps this is why Jesus speaks so frequently about money. Today’s readings help us see money & material goods in their proper place. Everything is a gift from God—a testament to his enduring mercy & unconditional love. But these gifts were never intended to be the focal point of our lives. Being materially blessed brings comfort and joy to our lives, but also responsibilities. We ought to help those who are struggling & suffering, not to earn our own salvation, but to demonstrate our appreciation of God’s rich love which has redeemed us from the curse of our sinfulness.
