Come and See: The Father
Over the past weeks, we have been watching and listening as the Resurrected Jesus interacts with those who were discouraged by his death and doubted his resurrection. A shift begins today, as we anticipate Jesus’ Ascension and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. In our Gospel, Jesus prepares his disciples for his departure. They were discouraged and troubled. Jesus could have told them that they just needed to hold on for four more days. Instead, he rooted their faith in his divinity and his mission. He says: I am the way, the truth, and the life. There are not easier ways, more palatable truths, or customized choices for life. There is one. Peter reflects this wonderful truth as he speaks about our struggles in this world. There are many times we feel discarded, deserted, and dejected. We may think our plight is beyond hope. But God has chosen you. He loves you. You are his own.
