The Kingdom of Heaven: Founded on Christ

Confessional Lutherans handle the Word of God with great reverence and concern. These are the eternal words of our living God. Today, God tells us that his Word is like the rain that falls from above, sustaining spiritual life across the face of the earth. But it is not received the same way in every single case. In our Gospel reading, Jesus shows us why some who hear the Word remain unfruitful. The sower is equally generous. The seed is the same in one place as another. But some reject the gracious Word. There are even those who receive it for a time, but quickly abandon what God says when it doesn’t fit with their desires or their experiences. Yet this same Word produces a bountiful harvest in many lives. This Word is the foundation for our faith and everything the Church of Christ believes and does. Ministers of the Gospel may be fixtures in God’s Temple, but they can never replace the foundation God has laid. May God continue to mature and develop us to be fruitful recipients and a beautiful temple of believers.
