The Kingdom of Heaven: Provides Rest

For many, today is an important holiday—time off for recreation. But God intends every Sunday to be even more. From the beginning, God provided rest for his creation—especially his people. To drive the importance of this blessing home, God himself rested on the seventh day and gave mankind the blessing of the Sabbath. However, since the fall into sin, our predisposition, practice, and pursuit of rest have been all wrong. We see the rest that God intends for us as robbing us of something —either the chance to be more productive or the opportunity to do what we really want. Today, God’s Word shows us why we struggle. Enjoying recreation time is good, but it often leaves us feeling like we have to catch up on all we missed. When we’re certain of Christ’s redemptive work, our lives and even our work are transformed. We can rightly relax from our daily grind because we have rest in Jesus’ finished work. We are forgiven and free. To God be the glory in all things!
